Top Ways to Extend Your Home and Add More Space

People are always looking at how to maximize or gain more space in their property. This can be for several reasons, most commonly due to a growing family and the inability, or reluctance of moving and finding a larger home. Whatever your reason is, here are some of the top ways to extend your home and add more space.

Property extension

Of course, the most obvious way to extend your home and add more space is to look into getting an extension. These are often sought-after renovations for many homeowners, as it not only increases the indoor space, but they will also increase the value of your property. There are many different types of home renovations and extensions available, each with different benefits and characteristics.

Loft and basement conversions

Often in homes, there will be a lot of unused, or wasted space in lofts, or basements. These are great places to conduct a renovation and increase the space within your home. Just like with an extension, investing in a loft or basement conversion will also help increase the value of your property too. The main consideration to take into account when it comes to large-scale renovations such as extensions and conversions is the costs, disruptions, and timescales of these projects.

Opening up your current rooms

Not everything needs to be an expensive renovation to create more space within your home. Of course, you could start knocking down interior walls to open up your home and give it the feeling of more space. But before you do that, consider how you have your rooms laid out, and if there are items blocking places such as windows where light comes in. These are all ways to create an illusion of extra space, and you will be surprised at how much more space you feel you have if you make a few layout changes to open up your current rooms.

Create a covered outdoor living space

Not all extensions of your home need to be exclusively indoors. You could also consider the use and construction of a covered outdoor living space. You will find these in the category of patios, gazebos, and sunrooms. These alternatives are often accompanied by outdoor shade blinds to help protect you from the elements while you enjoy your time outside.

Adding an attached garage

Adding a garage that you can access through your property is another way of creating space and extending your home. Whether or not you will use this space for parking your vehicle is up to you. Some people end up using it as a handy storage unit, others as a place to work on messy DIY projects, and some even spend a little extra time and money on their garages and semi-convert them into another space where you can chill out or relax.

So, whatever your reasons are for extending your home or looking to add more space, why not try out one or two of these top tips, and see if they work for you?
