2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

I receive a week long test drive from STI and Mitsubishi. All opinions are mine and mine alone.

I recently got to drive the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. I happen to have this vehicle to review during the crazy snow storm! Mother Nature had chosen to dump a good 8 inches of snow on us here in PA.  I will say I am more than impressed by how the Mitsubishi handled it. This is coming from someone who has never driven in the snow, and would rather stay inside for the day, than to venture out in fluffy white powder.

I must say when I got the car I was disappointed. This car did not come with the bells and whistles that I was expecting. It was rather more on the plain side and just was not too amused by it. It had normal seats, normal locks, and the touch screen was nice, but not as fancy as others I have seen. Well as I said before, I was impressed. I took it for a nice drive and I was blown away. It easily fit my 3 car seats in the back row and had room for a stroller and groceries. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is so much more than what meets the eye.

~My son was fast asleep while I was driving around in this snow, That says a lot about the ride.~

While my first impression was that it was nothing special, it turned out to be something amazing. The car had heated seats! YES, one of my most favorite features in new cars. It also had so many hidden features you wouldn’t know you wanted. It has all wheel control. I must say in the snow this was awesome. It made me feel I was in control of the vehicle. I felt in control and very safe driving it. So safe with it, that I even ventured out in this snow. I drove in a parking lot that was not plowed. My boyfriend took it to work and had no issues getting out of 8 inches of snow. It was awesome. I did not tell you it was not even in 4wheel during this time. Like I mentioned before, I never really tried to drive in the snow because I knew my cars just couldn’t do it. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is quite different than anything I ever drove before.

~To give you an idea of what I was driving in! I did not get stuck ONCE!~

I fell in love with this car. I loved driving it. It was fun to drive, turning was even fun! I just did not want to give it back. I was chanting; bring in the snow, my Mitsubishi Outlander Sport wants to play. I was not afraid to go get my milk and bread now. It also has independent suspension to help keep all 4 wheels on the ground. It works! One more awesome feature is how they worked the energy brake regenerating system. It truly helps reduce energy loss and makes it more efficient. We drove it for a whole week and still had plenty of gas left. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a great mix of practicality, fun, and more. It can serve as a great family car, but also as a family car that you know will see you safely on your way home. They really upped their game now; Mitsubishi is a brand that is really making useful vehicles that we can depend on for reliability for a long time.

~I also have to mention, we had this during the ice storm too and it was AWESOME then as well. This is midday after, so some ice has melted~

Although the weather conditions while driving this vehicle was for the most part snow, I am truly impressed. I am still so shocked about how it blew me away. I will now be a loyal fan of this vehicle. It showed me, experience or not, this car really showed me that is not what is on the outside, it’s what is on the inside that counts. The Mitsubishi really has so much to offer besides those bells and whistles. I drove it out in snow and loved it. I now know why all those men want to go crazy in unplowed parking lots. I know why wheel stability is so important and there is even such thing as hill assist. Sometimes climbing these country hills is just crazy and having to stop half way up because of a buggy in front of us, is not a problem with the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

My boyfriend also loved the car and was impressed about how it handled. He was driving around the parking lot at work, matting down the snow so other cars could get out. It was one awesome, eye opening week for myself with the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. I loved the heated seats and all that jazz, but I really appreciated all the hidden features we don’t think about at first. This is one car that is going on my “I want to own” list!

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport blew me away. It looked pretty and nice on the outside but whats under the hood and inside won me over.! Much like a recent recipe for my “STUFFED PIE CRUSTS” They looks pretty good on the outside but take a bite and inside will have you asking for thirds!

Hi Priscilla, My husband and I are looking at getting a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. My only concern was if we could fit 3 carseats across in the second row. After reading reviews it seemed near impossible. Then I read this blog post and saw you indeed were able to! I was curious if you could tell me what carseats you have?

    • We use carseats called Dionos I can get three across is it a tight fit and takes some practice but it worked.. I also use two and then the infant bucket seat in the middle. I am not an expert but it worked out for us. I can tell you from driving a mazda with three carseats in it that its annoying when then kids fight. But eventually they will be using boosters and then everything is still crazy but not so crowded. My oldest kids use a bumblebum. They are great and my son uses his diono still. If you can get a bigger car or one with a third row I’d do that.. The outlander thou is a affordable car and is really great with driving in the weather.. I defiently felt safe in it.
