Top Tips For a Stress-Free Move

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

When it is time to move home it can be such an exciting time. You might be moving into your first ever home that you’ve bought, or it might be just onwards to your dream home or a larger home that will fit all of your family in. But just because it is a happy and exciting time, it doesn’t mean that it won’t be a stressful time. It can feel a little overwhelming with all that there is to do with the move; there are so many different things to organize and to plan ahead for. But luckily, there are quite a few things that you can do ahead of time to avoid any unnecessary stress and unpleasantness on the day. So you need to start early and make sure that you have a plan. Then you can make sure that you’re able to take it easy on yourself and try to enjoy the move and the moving process. Here are some things that could help.

Pick a removals firm early on

Depending on when you are planning to move can take a bit of coordination, as you might need some time off work, as well as scheduling it in with the other people that are in the chain, as well as things like hiring movers. But the key thing is to make sure you plan in advance so that you don’t get caught out. If you want to hire movers, for example, then they can get booked up quite quickly so planning ahead is a must. Make sure that you check reviews, though, as you are putting your possessions in their hands and you won’t want movers that have a history or being less than cautious.

Declutter in advance

If you are moving home, then one thing that will make it all less stressful will be having less stuff to move from one home to the other. It can also help you to save some money too. If you sell or donate, or even recycle things, then it can make a difference to what you take with you. One of the simple ways to save money on your move is to avoid paying to move the things that you don’t need or use anymore. Then you can start from scratch in your new home.

Dealing with paperwork

It is so important to make sure that you sort all of your documents in order to have a smooth move. Things like making sure your passports, insurance documents, wills, and house deeds all need to make it from one house to the next, is going to be so important, and very stress-inducing if it doesn’t happen! So getting them all together and in a box is something that is really important. You also need to make sure that you give yourself enough time to change the address on all of your accounts and mail, such as a driver’s license, bank account, and so on. Often you can call in advance for these and let them know the date that it will change. Just be aware that if you’re sending over your driving license but you’re hiring a van to move things yourself, then you’ll need your license. So do it way ahead of time, or wait until after the move.
