Refresh Your Road Safety As The Roads Get Busier Again

All opinions are mine and mine alone

More and more people are returning to work, and there are more cars on the road again. Most of us have become used to the quieter streets or some of us may not have even driven our cars in months. So it’s important to be sure of how to keep safe on the roads again and refresh your memory for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Awareness is key

Road safety awareness can be increased by educating the drivers about the traffic rules and safe driving and this is something we all have to relearn.  As we return to work and take our kids back to school, we want to be sure that everyone is going to be safe and that is why it is very important to be aware that road traffic injuries are still very common and they still pose a threat. When road safety rules are used correctly and efficiently, they can help save lives, prevent accidents and injuries, and keep a society functioning in the most optimal way. There may be more motorbikes on the road than ever before again and so it’s important to start being aware of them again. Motorcyclists are 5 times more likely to be killed on impact with a car.

Take a little look again at these basic tips and rules to adhere to whilst on the road, to help you regain your confidence on the road and be able to implement driving safely again.

  • Know All Your Signals.
  • Pay Attention –Don’t text and drive or call and drive.
  • Be Aware Of Pedestrians And Crossings – There will be more people back out as pedestrians also.
  • Use Your Lights When Needed.
  • Check Your Car First – If you haven’t driven your car in a while it is going to be vital to check your car over to make sure that it is safe and nothing needs topping up or checked, including tyres and brakes.
  • Watch The Weather – Even though it is summer, it is often common to have summer rain and even storms. Be aware.
  • Look both ways at an intersection.
  • Keep your distance.

Lockdown isn’t fully over but it is time to get life a little more back to normal and this starts with being back out in public. Any car is a weapon and can be dangerous to bikers, and pedestrians as well as other drivers, so be sure that you have things under control before you sit down in front of the wheel again. Be prepared for other drivers like you and be kind and fair on the roads as others may be struggling too or have lost their confidence or may feel a little more manic on the roads, so stay vigilant and be sure that you can remain safe and in control at the wheel and get life back to a normal way again. Also make sure your car insurance is covered and that you have paid your car tax, just in case it has expired during the lockdown period.
