Gifts That New Parents Need (and Will Actually Use!)

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

While there’s plenty of things you can buy in the run-up to Christmas, it’s nice to give gifts that are useful. For all of the Christmas gifts out there, especially for babies, we have to think about giving gifts to the parents as well. When we are trying to provide some use to our friends who have just become parents there might be things that you haven’t necessarily considered. Let’s show you some things that will very likely benefit friends that have just become new parents that will actually be of some use to them!

A Smart Baby Monitor

Of the many must buy baby gifts out there, a baby monitor is the top of the pile for many parents. From their perspective, they will be constantly worrying about whether the baby has gone to sleep or not. Having a smart baby monitor is more than the old fashioned audio baby monitor, and it’s even better than those with a screen. While having any baby monitor is fantastic, there are smart baby monitors that send alerts and a live video to the parent’s smartphone. Many modern smart baby monitors track sleep and breathing with a motion sensor. One of the biggest anxieties any parent has is when the baby goes to sleep and if they are breathing. This would be something that is invaluable to new parents.

Diapers, but Not As You Know It!

You might think that it’s a bit silly to buy your friends diapers for Christmas or any time of year, but you will be surprised as to how grateful they will be! Diapers are always needed and for those parents who are constantly watching their pennies, it can make all the difference. Diapers aren’t all the same. If you really want to be helpful you can purchase diapers that are made of eco-friendly materials and come with interesting prints. It’s always a good idea to ask the parents what sort of diapers work for them as some babies don’t get on with certain diapers. On a similar note, baby wipes are always useful. But not all baby wipes are the same. Consult the parents as to what sort of wipes don’t result in a rash. There are many water wipes that are not made with fragrances and chemicals. And you may think that you’re being silly by giving them a gift basket of diapers and wipes, but trust us, they will be grateful!

A Streaming Subscription

Parents are up all hours of the night. If they don’t have Amazon Prime or Netflix, a subscription will give them a thread of sanity at 3 in the morning when they haven’t slept for days! Sometimes parents need to just stare at a screen. The great thing when Netflix is that there’s plenty of TV to keep anybody interested. For those who need wholesome television like Gilmore Girls or those dads who need bodybuilding documentaries to make them feel like they are more of a man, a streaming subscription is a lifesaver during those early days. You could also give them an Amazon Prime subscription. This can be very useful because they can order items they need without having to leave the house!

A Coffee Machine

Coffee is the elixir of life for new parents. In fact, it is so important that any parent who’s not been able to make their cup of Joe first thing in the morning can struggle throughout the day. If you really want to help your friends navigate the first six months of parenthood, coffee in abundance will feel like all their Christmases have come at once! But it’s not just about giving them a posh coffee machine, it’s about making sure that they’ve got everything at their disposal. You might be surprised to hear that they can’t get through a single cup of coffee without having to change a multitude of diapers! This is where a thermal mug really becomes the most important tool in any new parent’s arsenal. A great invention that keeps a mug of coffee warm for hours, your friends will worship the ground you walk on.

A Meal Kit Delivery Service

The simple task of cooking a meal becomes all the more complicated when you haven’t slept and you are so hungry but the baby is hell-bent on destroying any chance of you putting a morsel of food into your mouth. New parents normally don’t have time to cook for themselves or if they do it’s got to be something quick. Healthy food is of the utmost importance for parents who haven’t slept and this is why services like Blue Apron can be a godsend. They deliver pre-portioned ingredients to your door with recipes. You can get different meal kits to suit your friends based on their diets.

The Gift of Exercise

Exercise is so important to parents who are not getting out of the house much. Purchasing a membership to an online gym can be a fantastic gift not just because they’re able to get some endorphins running through their body, but this can actually keep them sane. A very popular one right now is the Peloton app and has thousands of classes to help anybody get some movement during a day without needing to leave the home. In fact, it’s very unlikely that they will be able to leave the home. And during the winter months, any bit of exercise can help them feel great in their mind and in their body.

The Gift of Mindfulness

Every parent will be going through significant trials and tribulations. They will very likely feel huge bouts of anxiety, which doesn’t help when they are exhausted. Helping them to achieve some sort of ability to relax is vital during the first 6-months. Getting them a subscription to a service like Headspace can be all they need to feel a bit more relaxed in the situation. New parents feel like they’re doing everything wrong, and it is important that even if they can spend 5 minutes learning how to relax, that this will give them or mental strength ready to feel better in themselves.

Sleep!

If you haven’t noticed by now, lack of sleep is one of the big problems new parents have. It may take a few months before they feel comfortable letting the baby stay with their grandparents and when the moment comes, it’s likely that mom and dad will want to go to sleep! And there are so many things that you can do to try and help this along. You can buy white noise machines like Ewan The Dream Sheep but also, the parents may want to have some freedom for the first time in months. Getting them a hotel for the night will be great for them but make sure it’s something with spa and relaxation treatments, as well as the most comfortable beds known to man. But a bed of spikes would be comfortable after the lack of sleep they’ve had!

A Smart Home Device

Parents have to multitask. They soothe a baby while drinking coffee, while also putting clothes on at the same time. They’ve also mastered the fine art of switching on a light with their elbow! But using a smart home device to set timers to turn off the lights and put the television on will help any new parent juggle a multitude of tasks!

Being a new parent is never easy but these gifts can make the stress and overwhelming nature of being a new parent that little bit easier.
