Thinking poorly of your body image can have a huge impact on your overall quality of life. It can affect you much more than you’d actually realise, and you may find that you experience things such as social withdrawal, anxiety or even depression. If you want to retrain yourself to love your body, then follow these tips.
Be your Own Best Friend
When the voice at the back of your head starts to bad mouth the way that you look, it’s so important that you stop yourself. Think about it, would you speak to your best friend like that? The answer is probably no, so you shouldn’t be speaking to yourself like this either. People who have low self-esteem don’t tend to give themselves the respect that they deserve, so whenever you are tempted to call yourself a derogatory name, you need to press pause and you need to try and change it out to something else. After all, you deserve so much more. If you don’t feel happy with your body at all and feel the need to make a physical change, then remember that the best plastic surgeons can help you to do that.
Trade the Negatives for Positives
This doesn’t just apply to your thoughts. It applies to everything. If you have family members or even friends who only have negative things to say, or if they are making comments that hurt your feelings, then make sure that you stay clear from them. Instead, try and surround yourself with people who are able to support you and who also want the best for you. People who tend to project negativity or even nastiness are usually insecure themselves, and they put out negative comments to boost their own mood. You need to try and find new people who are actually fun to be around as well as ones that are not going to put you down. This can really help you with your confidence and it can work wonders for your mental health and your standard of self-care.
Sign Out
Scrolling through social media sites such as Facebook can be unhealthy for your mind and your body if you are struggling with a low level of body confidence. Social media is not a reality. Don’t get wrapped up in all of the great things that your friends are getting up to or even how amazing they look. You need to focus on yourself because at the end of the day, they have bad days as well. Try and find a hobby or a positive outlook that stops you from overthinking as well as something that gets you away from the phone. This is the best way for you to boost your self-esteem.
Workout
Studies have shown time and time again that exercise can be a real-mood booster. When you get those endorphins kicking in, you will soon find that there is absolutely no room for you to experience low self-esteem. If your gym does not get you engaged, then go out there and find a workout that does appeal to you. If you can do this, then you will exercise because you love doing it, and this is the best way for you to experience the growth you need.
