How To Host A Sustainable Dinner Party

All opinions are mine and mine alone.

Okay, so before I get pushed over for suggesting a night in just as lockdowns are lifting, hear me out! While we were in lockdown, we weren’t allowed to host dinner parties unless they were a part of our family bubble we were in, which means that we have missed out on a lot of chances to catch up over a delicious meal and a glass or two of something fizzy. Dinner parties are the epitome of fun and just because lockdowns are easing, it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a dinner party or two in your home.

Dinner parties are known to be excessive, however, with far too much food and drink. There’s also the fact that they come with a lot of waste as a result of this excess, and the one thing that you want to avoid is too much of that when you are hosting. It’s for this reason that you should be looking into all of the ways that you can host a sustainable dinner party when you next go for it. You should be able to enjoy Superior Farms cruelty-free lamb and know that you have eaten well while giving back to the environment! So, with this in mind, here are some of the simplest ways to ensure that you don’t waste too much at your next dinner party.

  • Pot luck for dinner! If your friends are coming over and have offered to bring a plate, absolutely agree to it. However, make a rule that they can only bring the stuff that they already have, which saves spending more as well as more waste. So whether this is the fresh rosemary from the garden to add to Superior Farms cruelty-free lamb, or they bring a mix up of breadsticks and crackers with cheeses, you should accept all offers. You get to get creative this way, which is perfect for your hosting!
  • Check your stock. Before you go ahead and invite people around for a dinner party, look at what you have in the dark depths of the freezer. You can probably make up a decent meal on what you already have so you don’t have to go out and buy anything either. You can make some amazing soups on the stuff you have left in the refrigerator, too, so don’t forget to check out the bottom drawers!
  • Be generous with leftovers. As we said, dinner parties come with a lot of excess, so why not offer them out to friends. If no one wants them, there are websites where you can donate leftovers of meals to others and you can even head to a nearby shelter and give away the rest. If you don’t have enough to give away but you still have leftovers, portion and freeze for another meal.
  • Use good crockery. It’s so tempting to buy a load of disposable platters when it comes to dinner parties, but avoid that temptation and just use what you have instead. You don’t need to bin anything after a party and while you may have washing up to do, it’s better than clogging the bins.
