When you don’t know what you want to eat, there is always a sandwich waiting in the wings for you. What makes sandwiches great is that they are so easy, and there is one for every taste. From the basic cheese or ham sandwich to the more elaborate sandwiches we now see on TikTok. But which sandwiches are there true kings of the realm?
The Philly Cheesesteak
A sandwich for meat lovers and one that is universally enjoyed is the south Philly cheesesteak. This sandwich was invented by Italian immigrants Harry and Pat Olivieri and combines the finest cuts of steak and American cheese.
The seasoning of the meat is one of the most integral parts, and the roll’s softness also matters. The bread should soak up some of the yummy meat juices. The Philly cheese steak often comes with toppings like hot sauce, bell peppers, sauteed onions, or mushrooms.
Banh Mi
A Vietnamese masterpiece of a sandwich delivered on a soft, fresh roll. A fresh, flavor-packed sandwich that has a combination of ingredients. Pork belly, coriander/cilantro, pickled carrots and cucumbers, fresh chili and Maggi, or soy sauce. However, you might find them with mayonnaise, liver pate, butterhead, grilled chicken, and many other flavor-packed combinations.
The Michetta
Italian flavors have had a huge impact on the world, which has translated into sandwiches too. The only DOC-certified bread in Italy is soft, flavourful, and crispy on the outside. You can put anything you want on the bread, but some of the best options are mortadella, pesto, and mozzarella. Another option is packing the roll with smoked salmon, spicy green leaves, and red pesto. What really makes this sandwich is the bread.
Croque Madame
While Croque monsieur is the option most people are familiar with, the combination of the sauce, cheese, cured meat, and eggs is delicious. The ideal Croque Madame is simple – add some boiled ham in between some buttered toast, top it with cheese, and pop it and grill it until it is bubbly and brown. While that is happening, fry your egg. Pop the egg on top of the sandwich and enjoy!
The Reuben
A sandwich with a tang and some bite. The Reuben is packed with punchy flavors that will leave your mouth watering and your stomach very happy. Rye bread is the base for this ultra-savory sandwich. Stuffed with Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, sauerkraut, and corned beef and usually served with a pickle. Once all of these delicious options are added to the sandwich, it is toasted.
Bacon Sarnie
People of the UK love a bacon sandwich. A staple of a weekend morning, the bacon sandwich consists of exactly what it sounds like. Crispy bacon – a choice of streaky or back bacon, thick, soft bread, and a choice of red or brown sauce.
